AIR marshals were forced to restrain a man on a plane bound from Sydney to Manila after the irate passenger tried to break into the cockpit.
Australian Mamudu Kamara, who was travelling on Qantas flight QF19, ran up and banged on the door of the flight deck after crew had been unable to fix his TV monitor.
Air security officers immediately sprung into action and handcuffed him with the help of crew.
According the Australian Federal Police, the incident happened two and half hours into the eight hour flight on Thursday evening.
It was alleged Kamara had become abusive to staff after repeatedly complaining his TV monitor wasn't working.
The plane was flying at an altitude of approximately 10,000 metres when the incident happened.
AFP National Manager of Aviation, Assistant Commissioner Shane Connelly said attempts to distract a pilot while flying was considered a very real threat and potentially life threatening to other passengers.
"If the cockpit had been breached the consequences could have been disastrous. Such behaviour on flights involving an Australian destination or origin cannot and will not be tolerated by airlines or the AFP.
"We want to remind people that harassment or violence directed toward airline staff and fellow passengers is against the law and the AFP will not hesitate to take action against those who commit offences."
The captain of the flight made the decision to continue flying the jet, which was carrying approximately 400 passengers to Manila, where a handcuffed Kamara was handed over to the Philippine authorities.
Connelly added: "Distracting the pilots of a commercial aircraft carrying approximately 400 passengers and flying at an altitude of 10,000 metres (11,000 yards, 33,000 feet) is a very real threat to the safe operation of that aircraft.
"Air security officers fly on selected domestic and international flights to ensure the safety of travellers.
A spokesman for Qantas said passengers lives had not been put at risk at any time by the incident: "A disruptive passenger on Qantas flight QF19 from Sydney to Manila was met by local authorities on arrival into Manila.
"There was no impact to customers and the safety of the aircraft was never compromised."
According the Philippine authorities, Kamara was given a routine medical examination and then returned to Sydney on another Qantas flight.
A spokesman for Qantas said : "A disruptive passenger on Qantas flight QF19 from Sydney to Manila yesterday was met by local authorities on arrival into Manila. There was no impact to customers and the safety of the aircraft was never compromised."
