TASSIE devil Brooke Strong has hit back at "horrible" online bullies after she and Grant Lovekin became the first couple eliminated from this year's House Rules.

And she remains unrepentant about their controversial tactic of awarding low ball scores to the other teams, defending the move as a legitimate strategy to keep themselves in the competition.

"Social media is going off (on us) but we're staying off it because people are pretty horrible and it's just bullying," she says. "People who know us, know we went in there to play the game and they know (what's in) our hearts and that's all that matters to us."

Strong has been disappointed with her portrayl on House Rules , but concedes she sometimes struggled under the stress.

"I do have a strong personality but people need to remember you are under pressure and you don't always think as clearly," she says. "You react to things differently and it's a competition and anyone in that situation — if they're a stubborn, driven person — then that comes to the fore. But I'm not heartless — I have a big heart."

The Huonville couple went out on a high with their highest ever tally of 23 for their work on Bomber and Mel's Adelaide house. Awarding them an eight out of ten, judge Wendy Moore said: "This is by far your best work yet."
Fellow judge Joe Snell gave them a seven, Bomber and Mel gave them an eight and they placed second for the week, one point behind Adam and Lisa on 24.
But the strong showing wasn't enough to save them from elimination, with their overall score of 91 six points behind the next lowest scoring couple, Bomber and Mel, and 16 points behind leaders Carole and Russell on 107.

The Tasmanian couple clashed with the other couples from the beginning, including a heated argument between Adam and Grant that threatened to get physical in the very first episode.
And they caused outrage when they awarded a score of five to New South Wales couple Candy and Ryan — despite Moore scoring the NSW couple's zone a nine.

"I don't regret it at all," Strong says. "We were at the bottom of the ladder. It wasn't aimed at anyone personally. We decided … to do what we could do to stay in the competition."

Their own house reveal certainly resonated with viewers and helped the renovation show outdate The Voice that night with 1.658 million viewers.
While the couple have the lowest mortgage of any of the competitors, their two and a half bedroom cottage was far too small for a family of nine. Strong says she was on the cusp of moving out for the welfare of her kids and that's why, despite the negative attention, she has no regrets.
"For the house we got out of it, I'd do it all again in a heartbeat," she says.
