Entertainer Rolf Harris could die behind bars after being found guilty of indecently assaulting four girls.
SITTING diligently in the front row of Room 2 at Southwark Crown Court, Alwen Hughes has been a pillar of support.
Her legs are crippled by arthritis, her back is poor, her hearing not what it used to be but the Welsh sculptress has shuffled into the room to be helped into the same front row seat almost every day for seven weeks.
One can only imagine what has been going through her mind as day after day, week after week, the secret life of her husband Rolf Harris was laid bare in the most graphic of detail.
Nothing was sacred: from the size of his penis, to sexual affairs and his long-held and sick desire for little girls in bikinis.
And with the guilty verdict, Welsh sculptress Alwen Hughes joined an unenviable wives club, the unwitting spouses of shamed sex offender husbands.

Even after his questioning by police Alwen remained steadfast by his side, similar to Robyn Gardiner, the celebrity agent wife of Aussie TV star Robert Hughes of Hey Dad! fame, who stood by her man even after he was charged with sexually abusing four girls over a 20-year period.
Gardiner didn't attend court in May when the 65-year-old was sentenced to six years jail, but that was not, her lawyer said, because she no longer supported him, but to avoid the media.
"We knew it was going to be a difficult day and we didn't want her to be under any more stress," lawyer Greg Walsh said of Gardiner. "We appreciated members of the media would perceive it as being a lack of support for Robert but that was not the case."

Gardiner and Hughes appear to be standing beside their husbands even after they are found guilty.
Not so the wife of British celebrity publicist Max Clifford, 71. His wife of four years Jo divorced him in a hearing lasting less than two minutes after he was jailed this year for eight years for indecent assault of four women.
In the divorce proceedings when asked about the grounds for divorce she declared "unreasonable behaviour" and said it affected her health.
"I suffered from stress and heart palpitations and saw a specialist," she declared.
