Police are treating as suspicious the death of a woman whose body was found in an Adelaide hotel.
POLICE are trawling through CCTV images as they hunt the killer of a young woman whose body was found in a hotel room on Adelaide's main nightclub strip.
Alerted to the 26-year-old woman's death by hotel staff who found water running from a room at the Hindley St premises, detectives are working on the theory she had been working in the sex industry and had travelled here from Sydney.
Staff at the Grand Chancellor Hotel on Hindley St noticed water flowing from a 12th-floor room into the hallway and a room below about 8.35am on Thursday.
Major Crime detectives spent the day trawling through CCTV footage from the hotel and the victim's phone records to establish her movements during her final hours.
Detective Inspector Greg Hutchins said paramedics immediately alerted police after finding the woman's body inside the room.

"There are obvious signs of violence which made it quite obvious ... we were dealing with a murder," he said.
"She was not in the bath, but I cannot elaborate on where she was ... unfortunately I cannot give you the cause of death at this time, other than to say the death is suspicious and has been declared a major crime."
Insp Hutchins said police were yet to identify a suspect.
He said the Asian woman was believed to have been based in Sydney.
Police say a woman found murdered in a hotel room on Adelaide's nightclub strip may have been a sex worker.
Police are investigating whether the woman was in Adelaide to work in the sex industry.
"We're examining the possibility that she was working in that industry ... we don't know why this person was the victim of murder," Insp Hutchins said.
He said police were yet to establish which country the woman was from and were trying to contact her relatives.
A large contingent of detectives and uniformed police spent several hours coming and going from the murder scene.

Insp Hutchins said it was too early to determine when the woman had been murdered.
"I suspect it would take some time for the water to get to the room below but whether we are talking about half an hour or 12 hours, I don't know," he said.
"We are trying to establish where she was last sighted, who she was with and where she was."
Police also towed away two cars parked on Victoria St, about 100m from the crime scene.

The driver's-side window of a Toyota sedan was still wound down and Insp Hutchins said the owners of those cars were associates of the victim.
"We are examining two cars, they are associated with her, at this time they are not suspects but for full completeness we are examining those cars," he said.
"We are speaking with people at the moment, but they are not considered suspects at this stage."
Other guests staying at the hotel said they heard nothing out of the ordinary until a swarm of police converged on the scene yesterday morning.

One woman who was staying at the hotel said she noticed nothing out of the ordinary until walking into the large police presence on Hindley St.
Anyone who witnessed suspicious behaviour in or around the hotel, or has relevant information, should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
