DID Richard Wilkins' hair dryer blow up the Today Show audio desk?
That's the rumour Karl Stefanovic is sticking to after the breakfast program was forced to relocate from the comfy couches of studio two to the serious-looking desk of the news studio mid-way through the show this morning.
It was panic stations at the network at around 6.40am when the live audio went dead for around a minute during a review of new film, The Master.
A nine spokeswoman confirmed producers worked quickly to relocate the team to the news studio during a commercial break and seven minute Sony "filler".
"We had some technical difficulties on the Today Show this morning with the audio deck in Studio 2 breaking down at 6.40am," she told news.com.au. "Our production team moved quickly and managed to move the show into our news studios in record time.
"Not surprisingly, the on air team have had tremendous fun with this morning's hiccups with Georgie giving the glass walls a quick windex wipe and Karl joking with our viewers that it was not so much a technical breakdown as it was a power outage due to all of Dickie's hair appliances."

Viewers who regularly wake up with Today said they woke up with a shock upon turning on their TVs to the new Today Show "unplugged" set.
"@thetodayshow I woke up, turned the TV on and thought, wow, the today show is looking very serious for a Wednesday," viewer, Carl, tweeted.
While Richard Wilkins didn't respond to suggestions that his hair maintenance was to blame, he was happy to accept responsibility for a different reason.
"I just hope it's not my fault, I was just trying to borrow one little cable from the audio desk," Wilkins said on air, holding the cable up for viewers to see.

Lisa Wilkinson joked that the set looked like the "late night version of Today" that viewers had long been asking for.
While Ross Greenwood tweeted: "Live TV is much more fun when things go wrong. Like when the audio desk "blew up" on @TheTodayShow causing evacuation!"
Nine confirmed Mornings had also been affected and would be broadcast from an alternative studio.
Both shows are expected to be back in their usual studios from tomorrow.
