FORCED out of the Biggest Loser with heart problems, Ballarat supermarket manager Cameron Brown is an almost unrecognisable shadow of his former self.

After months of fitness training, two heart operations and a terrifying night in intensive care, Brown has slimmed down from an obese 146 kilograms to now weigh less than he did at 15.

The same supermarket staff members who'd begged him to lose the kilos for the sake of his health and his family didn't even recognise the slimmed down Brown when he returned to work half the man he used to be.

"The big thing was to walk into my own store and they didn't know who I was," the 34 year old said. "To see the shock on their faces was reward enough and there were some tears shed."

Brown is one of the top contenders to win the $10,000 prize for largest weight loss by an eliminated contestant on tonight's finale, which TV insiders believe may be the last viewers see of the reality series following disappointing ratings. The final four battling for the title and $75,000 in prize money are Katrina who's lost 26.9kg so far, Craig (50.4kg), Toni (31.8kg) and Sharon (28kg)

But even if Brown wins the eliminated contestant prize it won't come close to covering the $40,000 he spent on training three times a day and covering the cost of 13 weeks off work. An early favourite to win after dropping 10.25 percent of his body weight in the first week – the largest amount in the competition's history - he was forced out on medical advice after his heart began racing at 200 bpm.

"It put the fear of God through me" he says, adding that with the support of his wife Bianca, the family decided his health was more important than buying their first house.

"I've been told I was going to drop dead at 52 and not even see my son graduate high school or daughter get married," he explained. "The reality was I could buy a house, but if I'm not going to see that stuff why bother?

"It was just shy of 40 grand in the end but I think it will pay off tenfold."

Brown has taken a substantial pay cut to manage a smaller store in Ballarat, reducing the travel time and long hours he spent at his old job in Ararat.

Shortly after taking up his new job he suffered another heart scare and endured a night in intensive care and second operation meaning he was unable to work out in the two weeks before the finale was filmed.

"It was very, very scary and so close towards the end that it was a bit devastating," he admits. "But since then I've been unbelievably fit."

Brown has already run two half marathons and within weeks he expects to run back on the footy field with the Buninyong side for the first time since he was a teenager.

"I've got a footy jumper I had when I was 15 and it fits better now than it did then," he said. "I've got a new lease on life."

The Biggest Loser finale screens on Channel Ten at 6.30pm tonight.
