This Dawn of the Planet of the Apes trailer shocked viewers at the World Cup in Brazil.

A CONTROVERSIAL scene from Dawn of the Planet of the Apeswhere a gun-toting ape shoots at humans has shocked fans, sparking a social media debate as the film opens.

Nearly 10 million people who were watching the World Cup semi-final between Argentina and the Netherlands saw the scene during half-time, which they were asked to review by the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes official UK Twitter account.

The scene depicts an ape who pretends to befriend two armed humans before stealing one of their guns and shooting them both.

The trailer aired at the game led to 100 complaints according to the British Advertising Standards Agency.

"Complainants are concerned that the ad shows an ape grabbing a gun and shooting a man with it, during the broadcast of the World Cup semi-finals, which children would have been watching."

"We're currently loading these complaints, we'll access them before making a decision as to whether we will investigate or not."
