Meet Channel 9's resident 'big sister' aka Shelley Craft on The Block Glasshouse.

Part co-host, part camp counsellor on the reality TV juggernaut, the likable presenter has embraced her role as an on-site therapist for this year's competing couples.

Combining her passion for interior design and property development with her enduring girl-next-door charm, Craft can dish out advice on current trends (say no to copper wall-panelling, Chris and Jenna) as well as the tricks of the TV game.

As season nine inches towards the all-important live auction, coming to grips with both the property market and what challenges could await the contestants after the big finale could prove profitable in more ways than one.

And for this 'den mother' of two – who juggles full-time parenting to daughters, Milla and Eadie, with two-days a week on set – she's as nervous for each team as they are about the sales results.

"Scotty and I are a nervous wreck during the auction. You do try to remind them, throughout the series, 'enjoy the ride, this is about the ride.' Yes, the end result can be life-changing but these are the moments you've got to enjoy because potentially you could walk away with nothing," she told Switched On.

With a world of opportunity awaiting those who best grasp their TV break, Craft says the show is increasingly less about winning and more about what can be gained from the exposure.

"It's really about the experience and what career they may choose, post-auction, that this exposure has gained them. That's been a lot more prevalent in the last couple of seasons…what could come regardless of the results."

She has tipped Michael, Deanne and Shannon for big things after the hammer falls.

"Michael and Carlene are just divine, the loveliest couple but I really think Michael has a career in TV if he wants one. He really is the glue at the moment, holding the whole storyline together. He's quick-witted, he's sharp and he's lovable. He's like a Stevie Jacobs or Grant Denyer, just good value," she said.

"Shannon is doing his interior design degree and he just lives and breathes it. You just know he's going to get work. With (brother) Simon's cheekiness and Shannon's business acumen, they'd probably do exceptionally well."

While there was public outcry over the disappointing auction outcome for most of the couples contesting the series two years ago – won by Polly and Waz who pocketed a pitiful $15,000 profit – the harsh fact is the sale of these apartments are secondary to the ratings and advertising success it continues to post for Nine and production company, Watercress.

Craft said: "even if the auction isn't such a great success, the ratings are still going to be phenomenal because we've followed the lives of these people for 12 weeks. For an auction not to go well is absolutely heartbreaking and devastating because you know the work they do put in, but if the ratings are good, the show is still a success."

Married to a former Block camera man, turned real estate agent Christian Sergiacomi, the 38-year-old rides the property roller-coaster long after the series ends.

"We have bought and traded about five properties and that's our fun and games. Now, to be even closer to it, right in the market every day with his work, you just go 'please, hold out for another couple of months for our (Block) auction."

As she did when working as a travel reporter, Craft says she's "addicted" to design and development, which now spills over into her real life.

"It seems with every Block, we're doing one of our own, whether it's the house we're living in or an investment property. I love it, I just love it. At the moment we've done a bit of a 'mini-reno' on the family home we're living in, with the idea that we'll bulldoze and do a new build and that idea has certainly come from The Block. Seeing what it's like to do something from scratch, like Dux House and of course, the Glasshouse, it's easier to knock the thing over and start a fresh."
