Wonka prop sells for ridiculous amount of money

Based on the popular book by Roald Dahl, a poor boy wins the opportunity to tour the most eccentric and wonderful candy factory of all.

ONE lucky bidder has coughed up more than a few golden tickets to secure a piece of movie history.

An original prop from the 1971 classic Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory has sold for a whopping AU$12,000.

The prop, a Scrumdiddlyumptious chocolate bar, was sold on eBay and won by a British bidder.

According to the seller, it is the only known original Scrumdidilyumptious Bar in existence.

The chocolate came from the collection of actor Peter Ostrum, who played lead-actor Charlie Bucket in the film. It was to be Ostrum's only film appearance.

In March 2010, Nestle produced a new line of chocolate bars names "Wonka Exceptionals", including a Scrumdiddlyumptious chocolate bar, which consisted of toffee, cookie and peanuts in milk chocolate.

Roald Dahl's classic book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory bombed at the box office when it was released in 1971, but has since grown a cult following.
